Around the clothes
Linen and hemp have been chosen by Lunapoix for the 2010 collection. Both materials perfectly fit into our ecological and lasting development processes. Their ecological profile is faultless. The cultivation methods of these plants, from which our clothes are done, do not need any irrigation. Rainwater is enough to make them grow. These plants naturally grow with very little pesticides and do not throw out defoliant in the nature. Their cultivation respects the soil and integrates itself in the rotation of crops.
The change of the plants into fibres is a mechanical and natural process. All parts of the plant are used (there is no waste) and are 100% biodegradable and recyclable.
For the most important environmental stakes such as aquatic eco-toxicity or water consumption, linen and hemp cultivation are up to seven times lower than cotton.
Some properties are common to linen and hemp. Both are thermotaxic, absorbent and offer good protection against ultraviolet rays. Warm in winter time, cool in summer time, these clothes are more resistant than the others and are entirely recyclable.
They are perfect textiles for sensitive skins. Indeed, the research shows that micro electronic waves of the linen and hemp’s fibres exactly correspond to static waves of the skin, whereas artificial fibres produce static electricity.
For the dyeing of the linen, the use of chemicals is severely controlled and must respond to the European Norms REACH. For the bleaching, chlore has been replaced by peroxide. Noxious dyes are replaced by non toxic ones, and its natural colour comes from the interaction of the plant with sun, rainwater and soil.
Thanks to their hand-made finish, linens do not have any residue, which grant them to be OEKO-TEX certified.
Clothes are weaved in Belgium, with linen coming from occidental Europe (France, Belgium and Netherlands).
Our hemp comes from Inner Mongolia, and is made by a cooperative which agricultural production is organic farming certified by IMO Control.
